Tips To Get The Most From Your Sports Massage

Purpose of Sports Massage

- Ideally, preventing sidelining injury

- Sports Massage can modulate pain with a current injury and get you through training and competition

- Maintenance to prevent re-injury, pain or soreness

- Sports massage during training and after competition for recovery

- Pre-event sports massage a day or two before competition

- Discuss training schedule, a good day for sports massage is your rest/recovery day, after speedwork, before/after long run, when mileage has increased significantly or before/after race day

- Buy massages in bulk for discounted price if offered by therapist, if not offered it may be possible to negotiate a bulk rate

- Schedule in advance incorporating massage into your training schedule. This helps to get in a recovery routine and not wait until an issue or injury presents and to avoid last minute scheduling conflicts.

- Give feedback about pressure during your sports massage and at next session what helped the most and if any new issues have occurred to help fine tune your needs

- Adjust schedule according to needs but get at least one massage per month

- Consistency is key to get the most out of your sports massage
